If your show is chosen as a finalist, it will go on to the final round. The festival winner will be chosen after the final round of performances and will win valuable prizes, as well as major bragging rights.
What we expect from you:
After receiving scripts from us, submit your top four script choices. You will be given one (or two) to direct, according to your stated preferences. You may only participate in a total of two plays as a director, and that is dependant on the number of directors who apply.
If possible you should attend the general festival auditions and cast from within the talent pool of those that auditioned. Casting outside of the audition talent pool is highly irregular and generally not allowed. If you are unable to attend the auditions, that's okay! Our very qualified Festival Producers (Lorne Oliver and Amber Green) will cast your play for you.
You may also audition as an actor, but you may only participate in a total of two plays as an actor.
After auditions, send us your top four choices for each character in your play within three days.
For rehearsal purposes, we expect you to be out of town for no more than two weeks during the 2 rehearsal months (September/October/November).
You are expected to organize and run your own rehearsals. Let the Festival Producers (Lorne and Amber) know if you are having problems such as securing a rehearsal space or accommodating your actors’ schedules, and we will work with you to resolve the problem.
With your actors, attend one check-in rehearsal with the Festival Producers to make sure there are no problems with the production (mid-October).
With your actors, attend one tech rehearsal in the performance space the weekend before the festival opens (November 3rd - 5th) .
Stay in contact with the Festival Stage Manager and keep her aware of any sound/light/or other tech requirements that you may have.
In an effort to simplify scene changes between plays and to create a consistent look, this year we are asking all directors to plan to use theatre blocks (which we will provide) as their primary set pieces.
Be available, and ensure your actors are available, to perform in the first round from November 10th to November 12th. If someone in your group has a conflict with ANY of these dates, inform festival producers as soon as possible.
Keep the next weekend (November 17th to 19th) open after the first round, for a second performance if your show is chosen as a finalist after the first round.
Interested? After reviewing the details above, send an email with "10MPF Director" in the subject line. Please include your resume, and a message telling us a bit about yourself, what your directing style is, and what you hope to accomplish in the festival.

HOW TO GET THERE: Start at Jongno 5-ga Station. Go out Exit 2 and walk straight. You will pass the True Friend bank, a Paris Baguette, and a Dunkin Donuts.
